Movie Research - Mowgli (The Jungle Book)

What Conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

A convention that I am obsessed with is the unknown narrator or voice over telling a story as it plays out. It really brings the fantasy trope to life and adds a sense of mystery to the film. The setting of this movie is in the jungle. It adds a very mystical vibe although not an unnatural place it isn't common for people to just randomly go to the jungle. The use of a what seems like an unachievable or far from a mundane setting is what really makes it fantasy.

What Conventions of the genre does this movie have that you liked?

The use of CGI to make talking animals was very intriguing. It was interesting to hear the story from the perspective of an animal rather than a person. I also, liked the use of dramatic music que after the intro story or main action is shown. The use of rain to create a dramatic feeling of melancholy.

What Conventions of the genre does this movie have that you did not like?

There wasn't much that I disliked about the movie. I felt that everything was suited for this movie. However, If I had to choose, I would say I don't plan on utilizing extreme darks unless necessary.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website --- Watch the Titles Website

For my final task, a title sequence is required. I never thought much about the title sequences, usually, one would skip over these 'boring' presentations. By researching this website I hope to better understand the importance of Title Designs. I want to learn different techniques I can utilize for my own designs. Why designers choose to use certain fonts and how they standout from the background. How the background images, videos or animation tells a part of the story or movie. Also, how it sets the stage, the mood and effect it creates for what's to come. This is why I am researching these sites. I can't wait to see the ideas I come up with. Until next time!

Title Design Idea

Greetings Girlies,

I still have a lot of ideas for my title design so, this will probably change or develop as I venture through this project but for now I will stick to this current design. For this design process, I used Canva to design and curate my titles. They have a lot of fonts and accessible photos and elements, not to mention it is very user friendly.

I chose to use two different fonts for the design. I used the Virtual font for the first headings and Ananias font for the second headings and the title. I think these two fonts compliment each other well and since the virtual font is a small script font it helps the bold sans serif Ananias font stand out to viewers. Not only do I like these fonts, they make the film seem very playful, light and Cherry. Just a little deception for the viewers. They would never expect the story to take a dark turn because here they are judging a book by its cover. This helps to pull readers in and surprise them.

For the background I wanted it to be artistic. The use of water color is to create a light, fantasy like atmosphere. It also, represents the different worlds and sceneries in the film. The words for the first and last title are white and the rest of the titles are in a light grey.

I thought about the best name or title that would be fitting for this film. In the end, I decided to go with the name 6:02. This time is a crucial piece that makes up the film and a valuable symbol.

Each title will be around  2-3 seconds long with the exception of the main title which will be 4-5 seconds long. All titles will have a fade in effect and some will dissolve out but I plan to use more creative effects later on. That’s all for now my lovelies, I’ll surprise you in the next one. ;)
