Production Blog: Finishing Touches (Editing)

Greetings My Lovelies,

Now that I had most of the scenes, from the time I went to film at Dania Pointe, he editing process could continue. I began adding in the clips filmed, when I realised my big mistake. Most if not all the scenes filmed were done vertically instead of horizontally. Now, I could have just zoomed in and fixed the ratios, However this decreased the quality of the video by a landslide. In the end, I decided to leave some scenes vertical and with a blurred background to fit the horizontal ratio.

Moving along from that crisis, I used the crane clips for the title screen,  it seemed fitting. Then i added on the split screen scenes my teammate had edited. They were blurred because it was zoomed in. I tried my best to cut and replace the extremely, blurry clips without ruining the split screen effect.

After the bed scene, the audio continues on like normal, with no added effects. I occasionally, left in the ambience of the original audio, to create dramatic effect and give the feeling of life and realism. For most of the flashback scenes, for example the scene of girl 1 sitting in a cafe and then it cuts to a flashback of girl 2 being the muse for girl 1. I used effects such as wave motions, flashing lights and fade ins to distinguish these scenes. Most of the flashback scenes, I changed the filter to have a dream like effect or just be in black and white.

Finding and placing the captions was fairly easy. The part of the song I chose was very repetitive. I just made the lyrics simple and easy to read. Compared to a few videos in the city pop genre with bold and attention grabbing captions.

All in all, I was glad to be finished and witness the final product of the video. This project has inspired me to probably, make more music videos, because why not. It’s fun and a great way to travel and gain experiences. Until next time my lovelies.

Production Blog: Editing The War Scene

Greetings My Lovelies,

The war scenes were filmed first, because they were the most accessible. I wanted this scene to be very grim. Again I used CapCut for all the editing, personally I believe, it’s just the best. I wanted this scene to be very grim. It should tell a tragic story and get the viewers really, invested. First, I began with a peaceful scene. You see the beach and the ambience of the waves and seagulls grace the listeners ears.

Then suddenly, it shifts with a shake screen effect. I used the “Dark Brown” filter to portray a vintage vibe and times of destress and of course war. There are bomb sounds that overlap with a crowd screaming to support this idea. The audio gradually, fades in. I used a voice effect, so the song sounds as if it were trickling from an old record player, to add structure to the scene.

After the climax of this scene, it was time to show the depression of Girl 2. Distraught by the loss of her best friend, Girl 2 , drags across the shore helplessly. To achieve this I changed the clips to a greyscale. I also, made sure to zoom in on certain aspects, such as how the girl holds her slippers loosely and the melancholy look on her face.

Alas, we have the ‘Waking up Scene’ there are many things I thought could have been better. The background could have been less busier and the lighting could be more grim. Aside from this I was glad with the dramatic effect this scene had. This scene shows girl 1 waking up from her dream-vision and finds beside her a relic of her past. The sudden jolt of the girl along with the cutaway to the kalimba has a sort of Dutch effect.

In the end my lovelies, I really enjoyed editing this scene and I believe I really explored a bit more of editing with each clip.

Production Blog: Day 2 - Filming at Dania

Greetings again my kindred ones,

At last, I was able to grasp the opportunity to ditch the comfort of my bed and take a three hour drive to Dania pointe. Usually, it only takes around twenty - five minutes to get there, however, I had to pick up my group mate since her parents weren’t available. It was thirty minutes to her house and then an hour drive to Dania Pointe. Though, with a little bit of music and beautiful scenery from time to time I survived. When i arrived to Dania the first thing I did was to find a Cafe to film at. Taking a seat I filmed a medium close up shot of girl 1 mesmerizing about her past .Afterwards, I asked my group mate to film a side view of me walking for girl 2 scene. I also, filmed an extra scene of girl 1 looking at the flowers which will probably, be included in the finished video. After, I quickly changed into my kimono and then came the fountain scene. Sadly the much desired koi pond was not achievable. It was a long shot of both girls running into the scene. Girl one drops her umbrella in shock. (I broke my umbrella in this scene ðŸ˜¢ )

After that I quickly, grabbed my team mate and ran to the near by Japanese steakhouse. It was the main reason, I suggested this spot to film. It has a traditional Japanese scenery. The design was nothing short of magnificent, red bridges and shrine gates, fake cherry blossoms that grace you at the entrance, a life sized Geisha doll and the best part a flowing koi pond that ran throughout the restaurant. Even though it had almost everything we needed  I only filmed a couple of scenes. Such as the running scene and another scene of girl 1 walking. The lighting was too dark and the area was small, not to mention its still a restaurant, the black hibachi tables and although gorgeous, wooden chairs did not suit the outdoor look we were going for the main end scene.

There were a few scenes that I did not get to film, such as the girls at the stall and the purse scenes. It was a good thing that I filmed a lot of extra scenes along the way.

I would say that film day was a success and very much worth it. It was an interesting experience . Until next time my lovelies.

Always and forever,

Your Fashionista.
