CCR BLOG

 1. 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

Part 1: Look at your research blog. After looking at the conventions - did you do what is in your genre or did you do something else? Why or why not?
Part 2: Social groups - what or who, if any, does your video represent. Think of the representation groups from the extract and then expend from there. Does your video deal with any social issues or groups or is it just a fun loving song.

Most of the conventions for the music videos I've watched have an art deco aesthetic to it. I wanted to stick to that vintage theme so the video could seem truer to the music. This is portrayed through the vibrant patterned costumes mirroring a 60’s vibe. In Japan, bright, colorful and patterned kimonos were popular to mirror the art deco vibes of this time. The editing as well helps support this with vintage colors and sound effects, like the old radio sound in the war scene and dusty brown, color filter.

I wouldn’t say that the video represents any specific groups of people. It is just a story to express the journey of two best friends going through hardships. It takes place in their own world although the video is a bit historical it has the scenario with the best friends is fantasy in itself. The video just represents the life of these best friends and how the power of friendship prevails.

I feel as though I gravitated towards this subject because of the relationship between my best friend and I in real lifeEven though life may through problems at you and your relationships, everyone should have the privilege of having a good friend and holding onto that relationship.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Part 1: What makes your video special and fun and would want to male people watch it over other videos.
Part 2: If this was a professional video - where would you release it - MTV, TikTok, Youtube...

 You decide.

This video is eye catching to viewers, because it has an intriguing story to tell. The theme of historical fantasy is captivating. There is drama and angst to keep the viewers on their toes. The journey of two best friends during war time offers a view of the lives of teenagers but from a different time. It is relatable to the audience but still holds that piece of craveable fantasy. This is why audiences would be intrigued with my video.

I would release this video on YouTube and Tik Tok, because of their larger demographic. Being able to reach so many people worldwide is a big advantage. These apps are also user friendly, easy to share and receive various amounts of feedback. The audience would get to enjoy and communicate with likeminded individuals about the video. Vimeo is also another great option. The downside of YouTube is that they may take down the video because of copyright, which leaves Vimeo. It allows you to upload without the worry of copyright, however, I don't see much traction with this platform. Unlike YouTube, that a majority utilize daily, Vimeo is used maybe ‘once in a blue moon.

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
What did you learn about the process of coming up with the idea through posting the video - the whole process, what did you learn. Do NOT just list the steps you took, talk about the steps in depth.

There has been major growth with my production skills. First starting with the concept, discussing with my teammate in depth the ideas we wanted to incorporate into the video. After minutes of listening to the song, the same idea popped into our heads, to tell a tragic story about two girls who had survived a time of war and preserved their friendship. It seemed fitting for the music because the lyrics gave a feeling of desperation and escape. The mood should have a peaceful and almost nostalgic feeling in the beginning of the video. I made certain of this by showing bright clips of the beach with a serenading ambience. Then it immediately shifts to a dramatic and melancholy state with the sounds of bombs and the dusty brown filter complimenting the chaos of the scene. It then finishes with the girl waking up in a cold sweat to what was a nightmare of losing her best friend. The costumes were another learning experience, not so much for me, however, although I am experienced with some sewing skills, I still made the mistake of choosing a slight, heavy weight fabric for what should have been a light, frilly skirt. I was focusing more on the looks of the fabric, and how it perfectly captured the 60’s aesthetic. In the I had to substitute it for a dress I had that fit closely to the fashion at that time.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
What did you use to film, edit and blog. my phone and blogger are not the correct answers. You have to expand on this one. WHY your phone over a camera, WHY blogger, WHY Capcut or I-Movie.

To film this video and achieve the best quality, I used my iPad. It films in 4k and had just the right amount of space to capture all the scenes needed for the video. Not to mention it was the only thing I had accessible at the time. All the editing was done on my iPad as well, it proved difficult and frustrating to transfer all the videos from my tablet to my computer and then download and upload all those files. My laptop would have given me a larger screen but since all the files I need were on my tablet I went for that instead. The app I used to edit was Cap cut. At first, I had set up a space on the website, so my teammate and I to edit together, however, ironically Cap cut space only allows one person to edit at the time leaving the other to view only. It also only had limited space to upload files, which was not enough for all the videos filmed. In the end, my teammate and I decided to edit separately on the app. Cap cut offers a variety of editing tools for free. It is user friendly, easy to upload and download files and numerous templates to take advantage of. Cap cut makes editing fun and accessible, which is why I consider i5 the best tool.
